Ray Parlour does not expect Celtic to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, September 19, 2016) that Celtic will not progress to the last 16 of the Champions League this season.

Celtic have advanced to the group stage of the 2016-17 Champions League campaign.

The Bhoys have been drawn against Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach in Group C.

Brendan Rodgers’s side suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Barcelona away from home at Camp Nou last week.

The Hoops are expected to lose to City as well, with Pep Guardiola’s side and Barca the hot favourites to progress to the last 16 from the group.

The team finishing third in the group would drop down to the Europa League, and former Arsenal midfielder Parlour has suggested that this should be the aim of Celtic.

“They are going to be fighting for the Europa League,” said Parlour about Celtic on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, September 19, 2016). “Let’s get a bit realistic.”

Celtic and Monchengladbach are fighting for the third spot in Group C.

For Celtic to clinch the third spot, they will have to get the better of Monchengladbach at Celtic Park.
