Speaking on talkSPORT, Ray Parlour has hailed Arsenal’s signing of Shkodran Mustafi, saying the German helps the Gunners to push higher than Per Mertesacker ever allowed them to.
The German defender joined the Gunners in the summer transfer window in a big-money move from Valencia.
At first, there was some scepticism about the money Arsene Wenger’s side had paid for his services, with some believing they had spent too much.

Any doubts have been quickly dispelled, though, as Mustafi has formed a solid central defensive partnership with Laurent Koscielny.
Parlour has certainly been impressed, explaining how Mustafi helps the Gunners by adding more than just defensive solidity.
“I think Mustafi has been a really good signing at the back,” he told talkSPORT.
“He’s fitted alongside Koscielny. Before Mertesacker was playing and no respect to Mertesacker but he’s very slow and they had to drop off deeper but now they can push further.”

Arsenal will now be hoping that Mustafi continues to justify his price tag for the remainder of the season.
So far he has impressed, to say the least, with the Gunners having only conceded five goals with him in their team up to now.
That has helped them into first place in the table, level on points with Liverpool and Manchester City and the Gunners will be hoping there is more to come from their summer recruit.
