Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway is set to take charge of his first match against Norwich City at the weekend.

Ray Parlour has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 14th November on TalkSPORT, that Queens Park Rangers need to give Ian Holloway time to get things right at Loftus Road – even though he was surprised the 53-year-old got the job.

Parlour believed that Tim Sherwood was set to become QPR’s next manager, but he ended up becoming Swindon Town’s director of football.

Holloway has replaced Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Rangers, as the London side look to improve their poor form.

QPR have failed to win any of their last three matches, and they have slipped down to 17th place in the Championship table.

Parlour believes that Holloway may be able to improve, but only if Holloway is given time to put his new ideas into place.

“I thought it would go to Sherwood. It’s not going to be easy for him. He knows the club well, and he’s very experienced,” the former Arsenal midfielder said. “It’s a result business in the Championship, and it just didn’t work out for Jimmy.

“You have to give Ian time, and hopefully he’ll do well for QPR.”

QPR had gone into the season with hopes of making a push for the play offs, but they are already playing catch up in the race for promotion now.

Rangers are six points adrift of the top six, after a poor run of form towards the end of Hasselbaink’s time in charge.

Holloway’s first match after taking over as QPR manager will come at the weekend, when his new side take on an out-of-sorts Norwich City at Loftus Road.
