West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal striker Theo Walcott.
Ray Parlour has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 11th May, that if West Ham United sign Arsenal striker Theo Walcott they will need to change formation to accommodate him.
West Ham have generally deployed a 4-2-3-1 system this season, but Parlour doesn’t believe that Walcott would be able to play a role as a lone striker.
Instead, Parlour believes that West Ham would need to swap to a system that involves two strikers if they want to get the best out of the England international.
“Whether he’s the right man to play centre forward for West Ham… if you played Andy Carroll will Walcott running off him you might get a bit of joy off that,” he said to TalkSPORT.
A partnership of Walcott and Carroll would certainly have the potential to work, with the pair having contrasting styles.
Walcott would have the pace to feed off Carroll’s physicality, and run on to any headers that he won.
For West Ham to be talking about potentially signing Walcott shows the ambition the London club have.
Walcott’s career may have stalled at Arsenal in recent times, but he remains a very high profile player and it would be a signal of Slaven Bilic’s side’s intent if they did persuade him to move to Upton Park.
