The Whites, who went down 2-0 at Brighton on Friday, had won just one of their first six Championship outings and their vast improvement is testament to the work that Monk – who replaced Steve Evans in the summer – is doing in Yorkshire.
Things are about as exciting at United at the moment as they have been for a long time, and the Arsenal legend has said that the young manager is doing a fine job.
“That was the big game of the night I thought,” he told talkSPORT.
“Garry Monk has done a brilliant job. He really has, but he [Jaap Stam] will be disappointed not to get anything out of that game.”
They face Brentford on Saturday, before rounding off the calendar year with tricky visits to Preston and Aston Villa.
It’s a tough period for the Whites, but emerging unscathed from it would certainly boost the fans’ hopes of reaching the Premier League. That’s the goal and, at the moment, it looks very achievable.
