Ray Parlour has slammed Mauricio Pochettino on TalkSPORT for his comments after Crystal Palace beat Tottenham Hotspur by two goals to nil in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Connor Wickham scored from close range before Andros Townsend haunted his old side from the penalty spot. Kieran Trippier had the opportunity to do the same, but he fluffed his lines from 12 yards.

Pochettino was quoted by the Guardian after the match as saying: “In reality the most important thing is being consistently in the top four and playing in the Champions League. That is going to help the club to achieve the last step.”

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Parlour was gobsmacked by Pochettino’s comments, stating that winning trophies is more important than earning money and finishing in the Champions League places.

“At the end of your career, people come up to you and ask ‘What did you win?'”, Parlour said. “I was very lucky to win the Premier League and the FA Cup. That’s what it’s all about, not how much money you earn.

“You could have a big house and earn £300,000 a week for five years, that’s fantastic. But it’s still all about trophies. I’m staggered by what he [Pochettino] said. Champions League football is important. But you’ve still got to win trophies.”

Pochettino made seven changes from the side that lost to Chelsea in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup to take on Palace at Selhurst Park, with the likes of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters all starting.

It sees Spurs exit two competitions in the space of four days, and remain only in the Champions League and Premier League. Pochettino will now be looking to finish in the top four, and improve on last season’s last 16 finish in Europe.

Spurs are next in action in the Premier League, as they play host to Watford at Wembley who will be raring to go after an excellent 2-0 away win in the FA Cup over Newcastle.
