After a goal-less first half, Spurs finally broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, when Kane poked in from close range to score his 25th goal of the season.

He added his second of the day just two minutes later when he finished from Kyle Walker-Peter’s pass. In the 71st minute, Belgian defender Vertonghen made it 3-0 with a long-range strike. It was his first goal since October 2013.

Wimbledon, who currently sit 21st in League One, did well in the first half to frustrate the home side, but Spurs stepped up their game in the second half and took the match away.

Spurs enjoyed 81% of possession and had 28 shots during the game, according to BBC Sport. Former Spurs player, Ray Clemence, took to social networking site Twitter to express his reaction after the game. He tweeted:
