The Tottenham Hotspur ace has looked better in recent weeks.
Ray Clemence has admitted to ESPN that Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen didn’t start the season well, but claims he’s making up for that now.
He did struggle for his best form early on in the season, but signing a new deal at Spurs appeared to help him rediscover the high standard he has been showing for years.
The Danish midfielder has not scored in any of his six Premier League appearances, but he has managed two assists and overall the 24-year-old looks to be enjoying his football a lot more.
With Harry Kane out injured, Clemence has named Eriksen as one of the players who can step up and add goals in the 23-year-old’s absence.
“They’ve got an excellent side. They’ve got three or four other players who can score goals [apart from injured Harry Kane],” he told ESPN.
“Eriksen started not very well but has come into form over the last couple of weeks. Dele Alli is always a danger and they’ve got Janssen up front. It’ll be interesting how he does in the next two or three weeks as Kane’s deputy.”
Tottenham, to be fair, have not missed Kane a huge deal. They remain unbeaten in the Premier League and beat top-of-the-table Manchester City 2-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday to move second in the standings.
But Eriksen is unlikely to be a figure who weighs in with goals. That burden has been shouldered by Son Heung-min, who has five in his last five games for Spurs in all competitions, but the ex-Ajax man can still help influence things.
