Jesse Lingard is a pretty popular guy and that was evident when the Manchester United loanee scored a stunning brace on debut for West Ham as they beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Wednesday night.
From Ravel Morrison to Jadon Sancho, they were all praising the new West Ham hero on Instagram for his re-introduction onto the Premier League stage.
Lingard, who hadn’t started a league game this season, didn’t need a number of matches to get his sharpness going or a couple of substitute appearances to get a feel of the game once again because he was causing havoc with and without the ball at Villa Park from the get-go.
It resulted in the light-footed playmaker scoring two well-taken goals, as the likes of Sancho, Morrison, Ian Wright, Brandon Williams and James Maddison praised him on Instagram.
Ex-Hammer Morrison wrote: ‘Go on then’ added with a heart emoji. Whilst Sancho wrote ‘Let’s goooo’ added with a fire emoji.
Lingard’s Old Trafford teammate Brandon Williams added: ‘That’s what I am saying’. Whilst Arsenal legend Wright simply sent a number of heart emojis to the player.
All in all, it’s a pretty impressive way for Lingard to announce himself to the West Ham supporters, who will no doubt lock this debut in the memory bank for years to come.
But from the perspective of the supporters, they can now start dreaming of Champions League football, or a European finish, at least because they are sitting two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
And with Lingard’s experience and quality, others will now be thinking why they didn’t snap the England international on a six-month loan deal.
