Rangers are lacking creativity from midfield under Steven Gerrard – and one controversial figure was seemingly considered during the January transfer window.
The Gers did bring in Steven Davis and Glen Kamara in January, but neither midfielder are really the creative type with the flair Rangers are looking for.
There were loose links to Ravel Morrison in January, and whilst many brushed those off as being the usual January speculation, it seems they were true.
Morrison has told The Times that he held talks with Gerrard about joining Rangers, but no deal materialised as he ended up heading to Sweden with Ostersunds in the end.
Morrison, 26, is looking to get his career back on track after a dismal stint with Lazio, with the controversial midfielder showing a little promise again whilst on loan at Atlas in Mexico.
Morrison is only with Ostersunds until the end of the season, and Gerrard should certainly keep him on the radar for a potential bargain summer move.
If Morrison can get back to the form he showed with Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United in the 2013-14 campaign, then he can be that unpredictable, creative midfielder Rangers are lacking.
Of course, much will depend on Morrison’s behaviour over in Sweden. He claims he is ready to show that he isn’t the player or person that people remember him as from his time in England.
Monitoring his progress ahead of potentially restarting talks in the summer may be a wise approach from Rangers, possibly more sensible than jumping into a deal in January.
