Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after RMC Sport and L’Equipe were briefed by Lyon (via GFFN) that Memphis Depay and Houssem Aouar would both be staying.
GFFN’s article tells us that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas set a Friday night deadline for both players to leave, and now that has passed, both men are in the squad for Sunday’s game against Marseille.
It also states that none of the clubs interested in Aouar – GFFN’s story say Arsenal, Juventus, PSG and Real Madrid were keen – could match Lyon’s demands for the midfielder.
The Lyon No.8 has been strongly linked to Arsenal, with L’Equipe previously reporting that the Frenchman had agreed terms with the Gunners.
However, some of France’s top news outlets in RMC Sport and L’Equipe have both been briefed the aforementioned news, which won’t be music to Mikel Arteta’s ears.
It also doesn’t appear to have gone down too well with the Arsenal fans on Twitter, who seem far from happy with this disappointing news.
If there is still a chance of Aouar leaving, Arteta will need to make it happen quickly with just two days until Monday’s transfer deadline.
