Rangers boss Mark Warburton would love that money to spend at Ibrox now.
Former Spanish international striker Raul Tamudo has been speaking about his infamous failed transfer to Rangers back in the year 2000.
The story goes that Rangers had everything agreed to bring Tamudo to Ibrox from Espanyol – with his club struggling financially and having to push through a sale.

But the deal was shot down by then Rangers medic Dr Gert Jan Goudswaard, who said he had a knee problem and would not be a good signing. Tamudo flew out of Glasgow and back to Barcelona – where he went on to become a club legend.
He played 389 times for Espanyol, scoring 140 goals as well as playing 13 times for Spain, scoring five times.

A supporters club for Espanyol is now named ‘Doctor Gert, Diga 23’ in ‘honour’ of Rangers former medic. Speaking about the failed move this week Tamudo told TV3, as reported by Sport:
“They said ‘leave, or we will not pay your team-mates.
“Now he (Goudswaard) has a statue in Espanyol with his name.”

How Rangers fans and Mark Warburton must now wish they had the money to buy a player of Tamudo’s ilk now. The deal, according to Sky Sports, would have been a Scottish record £10.5 million.
Those were different times at Ibrox and Rangers fans will surely take financial stability over stretched budgets after recent events in Glasgow.
Hopefully Warburton can continue to provide success on a shoestring.
