It has certainly been a mixed year for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and in particular Danny Batth.

In terms of consistency, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been located towards the bottom of the pile for a long time now. The once great club have suffered from uncertain direction and a whole host of inner problems at Molineux, leaving their Premier League hopes in a bit of a mess.
One of the big reasons on the pitch has been the defence. Whether it’s individual mistakes or collective errors, the finger has been pointed towards the back four for their constant inability to make the plays necessary to guide Wolves up the table. Whilst the forwards haven’t exactly been hitting top form, a lot of the blame does lie with the defenders – and specifically Danny Batth.
Wolves manager Paul Lambert
In 2016 Batth has been a lethargic shell of his former self. After finally breaking into the first team following years of trying, it appears as if the captain has been sitting back a bit too much this year. Whether it’s being horrendously out of position or not guiding the rest of the back four in the right way, Batth has been guilty of a number of errors both last season and this season.
Molineux – general view
But it’s not like you can’t blame him for the players around his area, either. The likes of Iorfa and Doherty have been lacklustre at best, and Batth needs to step up and be a leader. His job is to lead by example and he has not even come close to accomplishing that.
There is certainly room for improvement but there is certainly a great deal of potential there too. Batth needs time away from the spotlight of being captain, and hopefully under Paul Lambert we will see some gradual progress being made. For now though, 2016 has been one to forget.
