Wolves are reportedly willing to pay more than £30m to sign Rui Patricio from Sporting but should they save money and target the Swansea City man?
Having confirmed their return to the Premier League by winning the Championship at a canter, Wolverhampton Wanderers are already looking to who they can sign this summer.
Backed by wealthy Chinese owners Fosun International, Wolves are willing to spend big ahead of next season and according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio is on their radar.
Patricio is also wanted by Napoli, however, who Calciomercato reports are set to lose Pepe Reina to AC Milan at the end of the 2017/18 campaign and the 30-year-old would apparently prefer a move to the Stadio San Paolo.
The Portugal international would also set any prospective buyer back €35m (£30.6m), which is the ‘keeper’s release clause, as Sporting don’t want to sell and are refusing to budge on the asking price.
Other options
Clearly Nuno Espirito Santo is on the hunt for a new number one between the sticks, despite current choice John Ruddy being named in the division’s team of the year, but could maybe look a little closer to home.
Swansea City look almost certain to be relegated this term following their 1-0 home defeat to Southampton on Tuesday (May 8) and yet one player who has impressed during a difficult season has been their stopper Lukasz Fabianski.
Although three years older than Patricio, Fabianski also has bags more experience in England’s top flight compared to his Portuguese counterpart with 180 appearances to his name to date and is likely to cost a lot less.
