Some Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports reported that Tottenham are keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey, who the Toffees also want.
The Jamaica international – who the Bundesliga’s official website likened to legendary Dutch winger Arjen Robben – has made it clear he would like to play in the Premier League.
‘Left-footed, frighteningly quick, bedazzling with the ball at his feet, and a liking for cutting in from the wing to devastating effect,’ the site said. ‘Sound familiar? Robben has already written his name into Bundesliga legend, and Bailey has all the tools to join him in the pantheon of greats.’
Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price is reportedly just over £40 million for the 23-year-old, who Sky Sports also mention was recorded as the quickest player in Germany’s top flight.
Bailey has scored 19 goals in 89 Bundesliga outings, while also grabbing 12 assists following a £12.5 million move from Genk in 2017.
If Carlo Ancelotti managed to secure his signature, it would be a real coup.

After all, this is a player who Sky Sports say Bayern Munich were close to agreeing a £55 million deal with in 2018, until the transfer fell through.
Bailey would also be a cheaper – and younger – alternative to Wilfried Zaha.
The Crystal Palace winger was reportedly the subject of a £70 million bid from Everton last summer.

Their interest appears to have spilled over into this window too, as Ancelotti seemingly targets another winger.
