
Arsenal fans have provided a mixed reaction to Maurizio Sarri being linked with their managerial job.
Of course, Mikel Arteta is still in the Arsenal dugout, but lose on Thursday night to the man he replaced then calls for a new man to take charge of the club will grow louder.
There’s not much Arteta can fall back on at Arsenal, other than that FA Cup win and the fact that they still have a chance of winning the Europa, but the latter might all be over pretty soon.
With uncertainty over what might or might not happen to Arteta if he loses against Villarreal, it still hasn’t stopped potential candidates from being thrown about to potentially replace the Spanish coach if he is fired.
Football Italia claim that Arsenal have entered talks with Sarri to make a return to the Premier League and replace Arteta.
It could be argued that Sarri started the road to Arteta becoming Arsenal boss because it was his Chelsea side that defeated then Unai Emery’s Arsenal in the Europa League final in 2019.
And whilst he wasn’t given the boot straight after that final, by the time Christmas could arrive, Emery was packing his bags and being replaced by Arteta.
Sarri knows his way around London having managed Chelsea and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the fans in North London are sick and tired of having ex-Chelsea men trying to save them from drowning.
From David Luiz to Petr Cech, none of those moves have worked, and the same might just happen for Sarri in the dugout if the unthinkable happens.
