The Rangers winger does not appear to feature in Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha’s plans.
The Bundesliga’s surprise package are said to have been impressed by McKay during January’s friendly between the two teams, and sought to add the 22-year-old to their already impressive armoury of young talent.

How serious Leipzig’s interest was remains to be seen, although in hindsight Rangers may wish a deal had been agreed back then.
According to The Nottingham Post, who list local side Forest as one of several clubs attempting to sign McKay, Rangers are now ready to ‘cut their losses’ on the player, and are looking for around £750,000 – a fee eight times lower than the one mooted at the start of the year.
Having failed to tie McKay to a new contract in the meantime, Rangers face losing him for nothing next summer if they don’t sell him now, although on the bright side any money raised now could help the Ibrox side over the line with mooted deals for Graham Dorrans and Jamie Walker.
One can only hope, however, that McKay’s sale will include a sizeable sell-on fee should the likes of Leipizg renew their interest later down the line.
How much should Rangers get for McKay?
