Marcus Rashford has found his rhythm again at Barcelona, and with the World Cup coming up, he’s looking to make a case for himself to get back into the England squad.

That push continued in international colours as Rashford featured in England’s 2-0 win over Serbia.

England have already booked their place at the World Cup, so these matches are more about players showing what they can offer under Thomas Tuchel.

So, did Rashford do enough in the win to catch Tuchel’s attention? Here’s how he played and what the media made of his performance.

Rashford’s performance against Serbia: How did he do?

Marcus Rashford has been impressive at Barcelona, but he is still trying to translate that form into the international setup.

Thomas Tuchel sees the potential in Rashford and has been clear about his expectations, urging him to show more consistency at the top level.

This time out, Rashford was given a chance from the start against Serbia, taking Eberechi Eze’s usual spot on the left wing.

But he struggled to make an impact and ended up being replaced by Eze in the second half. It didn’t help his case that Eze scored late on to secure a 2-0 win for England.

It was a tough outing for Rashford, who couldn’t capitalise on his opportunity. Tuchel won’t have been impressed by his lack of defensive effort either, something that has often come up during his time with Manchester United.

National media response to Rashford’s outing against Serbia

Rashford didn’t always have an easy time with the English press during his days at Manchester United, as they often criticised his every move.

There’s no doubt he seems happier since leaving England, though that hasn’t stopped the scrutiny whenever he pulls on the national shirt.

The Mirror pointed out a familiar pattern in Rashford’s game, noting how he found good positions but failed to capitalise on them. They also referenced Tuchel’s earlier remarks about needing more consistency from him.

The BBC took a more positive view, giving him a 7/10 and highlighting a couple of exciting runs that provided some energy in what wasn’t one of England’s better performances.

Goal offered a 6/10, acknowledging his pace and trickery as constant threats but also mentioning that his lack of end product made for a frustrating display.

The Daily Express also rated him 6/10, describing him as consistently involved without ever truly testing the Serbian goalkeeper.

England wrap up their World Cup qualifiers against Albania next, and given Eze’s impact off the bench, Rashford might find himself starting on the bench for that one.
