Dane Scarlett is the name on a lot of Tottenham fans’ minds after another impressive performance from the 16-year-old in the Europa League this week.
The teenager is making waves at Tottenham, and his performance even sparked comparisons to Marcus Rashford from Jose Mourinho.
Rashford is of course a player Mourinho knows well, having managed him for over two years at Manchester United.
Mourinho has had a lot of stick down the years for not developing young players, but Rashford seemed to be a bit of a special case, with Mourinho handing him plenty of chances, while the attacker also credits the Portuguese manager for his improvement.
“As an all-round player I’ve improved a lot and a lot of it is down to those two years under Jose,” the United forward told the UTD Podcast, cited by the Daily Express.
“We had ups and downs. When I look back at it, it was a tough period but definitely that made me a better player. He didn’t care what anyone would say to him or what anyone was saying about him. In terms of his mentality he was key to my development.”

These comments certainly make for interesting reading after Mourinho’s comparison with Scarlett.
It seems as though the Tottenham boss knows how to manage a player like Rashford, who doesn’t seem to have enough good things to say about his former manager, and that surely bodes well for Scarlett’s development under the ex-Chelsea boss.
Of course, different players have different personalities and Scarlett may not react to Mourinho’s methods in the same way as Rashford, but the fact that Mourinho was able to get the best out of Rashford during his time at Manchester United certainly bodes well for Spurs’ teenage starlet.
These comments from Rashford should have Spurs fans very excited for what the future holds for Scarlett under Mourinho.
