West Ham United have confirmed the arrival of their seventh summer signing in the form of Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea – prompting reaction from Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes, and ex-Hammer Felipe Anderson on Instagram.

Emerson, 28, joins West Ham on a deal until June 2026 for a fee believed to be in the region of £15million. It comes after he had returned to Chelsea from a loan spell at Lyon – but found his path into the Chelsea side utterly blocked.

Indeed, Chelsea have brought in Marc Cucurella from Brighton – while England international Ben Chilwell remains. Emerson had to go. West Ham have decided to end their search for a left-back by signing the Italy star.

It finally sees West Ham and David Moyes solve their left-back issue. Arthur Masuaku has left the club on a loan-to-buy basis, joining Besiktas. Only veteran defender Aaron Cresswell remains as the club’s recognised senior left-back.

Brazil international Anderson, who came through the ranks at Brazilian side Santos alongside Emerson, responded to West Ham’s confirmation on Instagram. Anderson responded, saying: “God bless you, my brother.”

It is an intriguing signing, but also a sign as to where West Ham are in terms of their growing stature. The club surprised many when they beat PSG to the signing of Gianluca Scamacca. The Hammers also have Maxwel Cornet.

That is despite numerous clubs pursuing the Frenchman, after Burnley’s relegation. Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Flynn Downes have also joined the Hammers this summer. Spending has surpassed £120million.

Anderson was not the only player to respond. Emerson also sent a message to Hammers fans on Instagram. It prompted reaction from Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarares – who played with him at Lyon last season.
