Alan Shearer heaped praise on Tottenham striker Harry Kane to BBC Sport and how the defensive side of his game is ‘often overlooked’.
The Premier League’s all-time goal-getter stated that it’s ‘rare’ to see a player being such an ‘effective, attacking all-rounder’, as he praised the Tottenham’s captain work both in the final third and the defensive third.
Under Jose Mourinho, Kane has dropped that little deeper and become a creator within this team and that has also seen him top the assists charts for this campaign ahead of the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Bruno Fernandes.
But whilst Kane’s attacking number continue to shine, Shearer wanted to talk about how the ‘phenomenal’ goalscorer adds so much quality when defending corners for Spurs.
“I still see Kane as a goalscorer – you have to, because of the sheer number he gets,” said Shearer. “But it shows how good he is that he is also a creator and defender for Spurs.
“It is rare to see such an effective, attacking all-rounder in any circumstances, but on top of that, he is the ultimate team player too, willing to do whatever is asked of him.
“We already knew Kane was a phenomenal goalscorer before this season, and it is nothing new for him to drop deep to link up play either, but what he does in his own penalty area is often overlooked.”

It’s no surprise that Mourinho has started to use Kane’s physical frame to good use because he has added that aggression and bite to the Englishman’s game.
In Tottenham’s All or Nothing documentary, Mourinho made it clear to the Spurs academy product that he wanted to take his game to the absolute next level.
Whilst Spurs have suffered damaging back-to-back defeats, it’s fair to say that Kane has transformed to another level under Mourinho, who now has the complete package on his hands.
It’s now just a case of adding a trophy to that cabinet because that’s the only thing that’s missing now.
