Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic will reportedly have to pay £10 million to sign Ivan Toney.

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry told The Daily Mail (print edition, page 79, June 9, 2020) that Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic want to sign Toney in the summer transfer window (click here to read more).

Fry said that he has had agents tell him that Rangers and Celtic are “very interested” in the striker.

The Scottish Sun also reported earlier this month that Rangers and Celtic scouts have watched the former Newcastle United striker in action.

The Peterborough Telegraph has now claimed that the Posh want £10 million as transfer fee for the striker.

The report states interest in the 24-year-old from Watford, while The Scottish Sun has claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion want the striker.

Too expensive for Rangers or Celtic?

With Watford and Brighton reportedly looking at Toney, it is going to be hard for Rangers and Celtic to complete with them for the striker, described by Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony as a player who is “rare to find”, as posted on Twitter.

True, the Hornets and the Seagulls both could be relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season, but they would still be able to afford to pay £10 million with ease, while it could be too expensive for Rangers or Celtic.

Toney is a brilliant striker who scored 24 goals and provided five assists in League One for Peterborough this season, as stated on BBC Sport.
