Mauricio Pochettino focused on improving his Tottenham defence in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino interestingly decided not to add a central midfielder to his Tottenham Hotspur squad in the summer and instead focused on adding a number of defenders to his squad.
But with Spurs now way behind Manchester City after losing 4-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side earlier this month, have they proved successes? Here, we rank Spurs’ summer signings.
5 – Fernando Llorente
Target man Llorente has managed just one goal since joining the club from Swansea City, but he is very much in an impossible position. Spurs need a striker as good as Harry Kane, but one that has to be a back-up to Kane. Unfortunately for Llorente, it has not worked out as of yet.

4 – Paulo Gazzaniga
The Argentinian was brought to north London to act as a back-up to Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris, but he has managed just one single appearance so far. It is right to ask the question, is he needed and was his signing necessary?
3 – Juan Foyth
Making just three appearances, Foyth has been okay. But the 19-year-old needs to step up his game if he is to break into the side – luckily for him, age is on his side. Perhaps Toby Alderweireld’s injury could see him become more involved.

2 – Serge Aurier
In and out of the side, the Ivory Coast international has been used as part of a rotation system with Kieran Trippier on the right side of defence. Yet to have a real impact, he needs consistent game time to reach his full potential
1 – Davinson Sanchez
The youngster from Ajax has been excellent since his move to Spurs. Offering pace, aerial prowess and aggression n defence, he has starred alongside Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. At £28million, he has been a superb addition.
