There are a number of clubs aiming to reach the Premier League for the first time, but some are more prepared for the journey than others.

Over the last few years we have slowly seen an increase in new sides reaching the Premier League. For every Middlesbrough and Watford bouncing back there is a Bournemouth or Blackpool, and as the quality of second tier sides continues to grow so does their chances of reaching the top flight.

This year in particular there’s a whole host of clubs vying to reach the promised land for the first time, with these three in particular looking like the front runners.

1) Brighton & Hove Albion

With just two losses in their first 16 games, Chris Hughton has turned this Brighton side into a team more than capable of securing promotion to the Premier League. They have come so close over the last few years and with a strong squad, a healthy financial backing and fantastic support there is no limit to what the Seagulls can achieve. They are definitely the main contenders to be first time Premier League members next season.

2) Huddersfield Town

It’s odd that such a historically successful side like Huddersfield have never competed in the Premier League. Either way, they are looking really strong this year and find themselves sitting comfortably in third position. They have slowed down slightly since August, but with the talent they have at their disposal they have set themselves up brilliantly for a run at the big time.

3) Bristol City

Despite the fact they have slipped down the table slightly, Bristol City are still very much in the race for promotion. They came out of nowhere this year with their start to the campaign, with youngster Tammy Abraham leading the way for the Robins. The problem is that as the season goes on more and more sides will start to figure them out, and their lack of experience could prove costly.
