Rangers have been given an injury boost after Filip Helander returned to action for Sweden yesterday as they lost 2-1 to Greece in a World Cup qualifier.

The Rangers defender picked up a knock in last week’s win over Spain, training on his own in the days after as Sweden boss Janne Andersson admitted he was a major doubt for the Athens clash.
However, Helander brushed off any concerns and took his place in the Swede’s starting XI alongside Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof at the heart of defence.
Despite being used sparingly at Euro 2020, Helander’s club form appears to have helped propel him into first-choice alongside Lindelof at centre-back as Sweden look to secure their place at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Helander would play 88 minutes as Sweden slipped to defeat, picking up a booking in the process, but it will be good news for Rangers that the defender looks to have come through unscathed.
The Gers look to have picked up a few problems during the international break with Nathan Patterson withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of their clash with Austria and Ianis Hagi testing positive for Covid-19.
Steven Gerrard’s side travel to Perth this weekend to face St. Johnstone in the Premiership before an Ibrox clash with Lyon in the Europa League in a week’s time.

The prospect of losing Helander for those would have been a huge blow for the Light Blues as they look to build some momentum following the international break.
