Rangers have been linked with St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark – and Callum Davidson has resigned himself to losing Clark.

The Gers may have a goalkeeping situation to deal with come the end of the season.

Allan McGregor is out of contract this summer and turns 40 later this month. Add in that backup Jon McLaughlin is also a free agent at the end of the season and Rangers may need to make changes.

A few goalkeepers are already being linked with Rangers ahead of the summer transfer window, with Clark one of them.

The Daily Record reported in November that Rangers are looking to sign Clark on a free transfer this summer.

A boyhood Rangers fan, Clark would surely jump at the chance to make the move to Ibrox for next season.

Clark, 29, has racked up more than 150 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and may be ready for a move away from St Johnstone.

It seems unlikely that Rangers would sign Clark as first-choice, and it may be that he is seen as competition for whoever is first-choice.

Now, St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson has admitted that he is resigned to losing Clark at the end of the season.

Davidson has told Football Scotland that he knows there will be interest in Clark, but he will keep giving his all for St Johnstone.

“I’ve resigned myself to the fact Zander probably won’t be staying,” said Davidson. “With his performance levels in big games and getting into the Scotland squad, there is always going to be interest in him. But I’ve no doubts he’ll keep up his professionalism and performance levels.”

“Zander has been the standout player for us this season and we expect him to keep performing like that. I have no worries about him at all. Over the last few seasons he’s got better every year. So if he goes to England to try his luck, everyone here would be happy for him,” he added.

If Rangers do want Clark, it may be wise to offer a pre-contract agreement now to try and get in before English clubs make their move.
