Will Daniel Finlayson be the next Rangers star to break through at Ibrox?
Young Rangers defender Daniel Finlayson is hoping first team chances will come his way.
The 18-year-old told the club’s official website he is eager to make the step up.
Finlayson’s versatility was on show in Rangers’ under-20 draw with Dunfermline yesterday.
He started the 1-1 draw at right-back, before switching to centre-back for the second half as part of a tactical reshuffle.
He is a more of a natural right-back, but learning different positions will help his chances of a professional career.
Finlayson says he is keen to catch Steven Gerrard’s eye.
He told the club website: “I want to get round there [the first team] as often as I can and show the manager and the coaching staff what I can do. The main thing is taking my chance and keep playing well.
“I’m really enjoying it. I’ve played a lot of minutes recently and it’s what I want. I want to play.”
The Northern Ireland born defender is also eligible to play international football for Scotland.
Rangers boss Gerrard has given chances to a number of young players and this gives other talents like Finlayson genuine belief and motivation that a step up is possible.
