Rangers have been linked with a stunning move for Xavi Simons – but Paris Saint-Germain are now expecting him to be in their senior squad next season.

Rangers look to bring Simons to Ibrox

Spanish newspaper AS posted a shock report last week as they claimed Rangers want to sign PSG talent Simons.

Considered to be a wonderkid, Simons was on the books at Barcelona. In 2019, he swapped Catalunya for the French capital.

Simons has only played twice for PSG’s first team and could now look to leave.

Out of contract in the summer, Simons is wanted at Rangers. Giovanni van Bronckhorst seemingly thinks he can bring his fellow Dutchman to Ibrox.

Barcelona are keen too though, meaning Rangers face an uphill battle in their pursuit of 19-year-old Simons.

PSG expecting Simons to stay

Simons is on fire in the UEFA Youth League, smashing three goals and six assists in just six outings.

Goal’s Marc Mechenoua has now offered an update on Simons’ situation at PSG.

Mechenoua noted that Simons is PSG’s ‘top performer’ in the Under-19’s.

Despite those Rangers rumours, PSG allegedly think Simons will be in the first-team setup next season.

PSG will need to sort out a new deal to do that, and they’re trying to do that in order to fend off Rangers, Barcelona and others.

“He’s the top performer in PSG’s U19s, an above-average player. With his goals and assists, he’s always important there,” said Mechenoua. “PSG are planning that Simons will be part of the top squad from the summer. PSG want to extend with him,” he added.
