Rangers are eyeing up an ambitious swoop for Xavi Simons, but the midfielder turned out for Paris Saint-Germain’s first team on Sunday.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Rangers are hoping to lure Simons to Ibrox.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Simons could be on the move having failed to break through at PSG.

Rangers are claimed to have initiated contact with agent Mino Raiola in an attempt to snap up Simons.

Given that Barcelona are keen too, this seems like an unlikely deal for Rangers.

Still, with fellow Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst in charge at Ibrox, Rangers have a glimmer of hope.

Rangers target Simons features in PSG win

Over in France, the Coupe de France had its round of 64 stage this weekend.

PSG travelled to take on SC Feignies, who currently play in France’s fifth tier.

PSG unsurprisingly ran out comfortable winners, sealing a 3-0 victory thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappe and a Mauro Icardi goal.

Mauricio Pochettino decided to give Simons a game, playing him for the full 90 minutes.

This may have been an attempt to show Simons that there really is a pathway to first-team action at PSG.

One game won’t necessarily change the 18-year-old’s mind though, and Rangers will still have some hope of a deal for Simons.
