Glasgow Rangers reportedly wanted Nick Powell in the summer, and should now look to agree a deal to bring him to Ibrox.

If Steven Gerrard could have put together his dream January transfer window at Rangers, it seems difficult to imagine that it would look any different to the one that he has enjoyed so far.
The Gers have completed four deals. Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe have joined on loan, while Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones have agreed pre-contract deals ahead of the summer.
Along with the Old Firm win just before the winter break, Rangers have certainly sent a warning to their rivals. But Gerrard may perhaps be hoping that he could complete the perfect window with one or two more additions.
One player that he had on his radar was Kieran Dowell, with the Daily Record reporting last month that the Everton youngster was attracting Gerrard’s attention. Unfortunately for the Gers, Dowell is off the market having joined Sheffield United on loan.
But following that setback, Gerrard should perhaps go back to a summer target who remains available – and could potentially arrive at Ibrox on a free transfer.

Powell has been superb in the Championship this season, scoring four goals and contributing four assists. In League One, he scored 15 goals to fire the Latics to promotion.
If Rangers could rejoin the race and tempt Wigan into selling this month, that would arguably be a sensational piece of business to complement the moves for Defoe and Davis.

But even if they look to agree a pre-contract deal with Powell, that would still be a masterstroke from the Gers, especially as they would be getting an excellent attacking midfielder ahead of the peak years of his career for nothing.
If there was ever going to be a time that Powell would be particularly keen to move to Ibrox, it would surely be to work under Gerrard and play alongside Defoe, as well as Alfredo Morelos given his current form.
And Rangers should see if they can round off what already looks set to be a defining month in their recent history with a brilliantly-shrewd move for Powell.
