Rangers are slowly doing their business in the summer transfer window as they are now reportedly keen in Anderlecht defender James Lawrence.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are interested in signing centre-back Lawerence from the Belgian’s top-tier in a deal worth £3 million.

Not many British players have made a name for themselves outside of the GB in recent years, but Lawrence is a player that has gone under the radar and if he were to move to Ibrox then he would be a smart purchase by Steve Gerrard.

Lawrence enjoyed a successful campaign in the J-Pro League last term, as his performances grabbed the attention of Wales manager Ryan Giggs.

The former Manchester United man handed the 6ft1 ace his first Welsh cap in 2018 and if he continues in his ways then he’ll be adding more appearances to his name on the international scene.

Given the fact that Lawrence’s career is on the up, he is at the right age of 26 and has experienced valuable knowledge of his game across Europe, this could be a signing that could add great value to Gerrard’s team.

Added with that, Gerrard wants his players to be dominant at the back and comfortable on the ball and a player like Lawrence can bring that to the table.

Plus, he has played in Europe for his current club, and with Rangers also vying to impress in the Europa League, his experience would be valuable to Gerrard and he wouldn’t be like a rabbit caught in headlight by playing in those tough European away games.
