Glasgow Rangers are still looking for their next manager, and a move for Gary Rowett should surely be considered.
Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Following Mark Warburton’s tenure, Rangers fans may be wary about the idea of hiring a manager who has not played or managed in Scotland and who was most recently in charge of a side in the English Championship.
But while Gary Rowett ticks both those boxes, the Gers board would surely be foolish not to consider approaching him about succeeding Warburton at Ibrox.
Warburton’s successor is surely set to be in a difficult position as with 15 players signed this season, there may not be too much room for manoeuvre regarding transfers this summer unless they manage to get a number of players off their books and receive some decent money for them, which, based on this season, does not seem that likely.
Rowett showed during his time with Birmingham City that he is excellent at getting the best out of a squad that others may have written off.
Gary Rowett
When he took over at St Andrew’s, the Blues were second bottom in the second tier. However, by the time he left earlier this season, they were just one place on a play-off spot having finished 10th in the previous two campaigns under his management.
And while he received plenty of plaudits when he was in charge, and a huge amount of sympathy when he was surprisingly sacked, the truth about how good a job he actually did is perhaps being made evident now that Gianfranco Zola is in charge. The Italian has won one of his 14 games in charge and they are now much closer to the bottom three than they are the top six.

With that kind of ability to get everything out of an unfancied squad, he may be the ideal candidate to come in and get the very best out of Rangers side that, while they are under-performing, does not appear to have anything like enough quality to challenge Celtic.
Other names in the frame may have bigger reputations or better track records, but given the state of the current squad, the Rangers hierarchy would arguably be making a considerable mistake not considering Rowett for the role.
