The former Celtic talent’s career has stalled dramatically in London as Gilmour is also linked with a switch from Glasgow to Chelsea.

Rangers are struggling to hold on to one of their top talents, as Billy Gilmour looks increasingly likely to be on his way to join Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The Glasgow Rangers teenager is considered one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football and Rangers will be desperate to keep him.

Unfortunately, as reported by the Scottish Sun, it is looking increasingly likely that the 15-year-old is Chelsea bound in a £500,000 deal.

However, no deal is yet done, with Rangers trying desperately to keep hold of the player. In doing so, they should mention one name – Islam Feruz.

When Chelsea signed the Celtic prodigy in September 2011 it was a shock for Bhoys fans, who saw him as a superstar of the future at Parkhead.

But his time at Chelsea has been a disaster.

He has been out on loan at clubs in Russia, Greece and Belgium as well as Blackpool and Hibernian. Currently he is with Swindon Town and, has not scored a goal in professional football.

At the age of 21 he is still contracted to Chelsea until 2019 but his career in London looks doomed.

Gilmour must heed this warning. At Rangers he gets to train at top facilities, play for a well supported club and perhaps develop into a first-team star in the years to come. At Chelsea, he’ll get a paycheck, no doubt, but is unlikely to ever see the first-team. A future of loan spell after loan spell beckons if he decides to make the move to Chelsea.

Rangers is undoubtedly the best place for him to continue his development, just ask Celtic fans what might have been with their one-time wonderkid.
