Rangers Glasgow's Glenn Middleton celebrates scoring in the 2018

Glasgow Rangers winger Glenn Middleton scored his first ever Scotland under-21 goal last night.

Middleton’s strike came in a 2-0 victory for Scotland against San Marino.

Scotland’s opener was an own goal from Edoaro Tosi.

The poor quality of opposition should not detract from Middleton’s milestone, which could really boost his confidence.

Middleton, 19, has made two first team appearances for Hibernian on loan this season in the Scottish Premiership.

The teenager was a key part of Rangers team at the start of last season, before fading and being sent back to Rangers’ development squad.

Rangers have a multitude of wingers available to them at present, and new signing Ryan Kent pushes him further down the pecking order, when he does return from loan.

Any game time Middleton can get, helps, and this goal is a major confidence boost for him as he pushes to make his Hibs spell a success.

A bigger test comes next Tuesday when Middleton and Scotland’s under-21s face Croatia.
