Barrie McKay has been slightly closer to the periphery of the Glasgow Rangers squad since Pedro Caixinha arrived at Ibrox.
Rangers’ Barrie McKay has endured a difficult season
Barrie McKay has suggested that he is not too upset with the fact that he has been given fewer minutes since Pedro Caixinha arrived at Rangers, admitting that he still has some way to go before he is the finished article, the Sunday Post reports.
McKay may have been in the starting line-up for the Gers’ win over Hearts on Saturday – the winger went on to score the winner in the 2-1 win at Ibrox – but he has generally been more commonly found on the substitutes’ bench at the start of games lately, not even featuring in the 5-1 defeat to Celtic recently.
But McKay insisted that his relationship with Caixinha is positive, and suggested that he has no problem having to prove himself to the Portuguese.
“It was great to know the former manager had faith in me. He put a lot of confidence in me,” he told the Sunday Post.
McKay is determined to prove himself at Ibrox
“The new gaffer has done that as well. Obviously I want to be playing, but I’m a pretty chilled guy so I don’t get too disheartened.
“I’m still relatively young and I know I’ve got a long way to go before I’m a complete player.”
The 22-year-old’s comments will surely be well received by the Ibrox faithful as McKay’s form has arguably been one of the many disappointments to come out of this campaign.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has used McKay fairly sparingly
In the Championship, McKay was often electric and his brilliant performance against Celtic in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final hinted that he would be able to take his game to another level.
And while there have been flashes of brilliance this term, they have not been as regular as fans would like. But with the youngster well aware that he has a long way to go, the supporters can surely feel confident that he is determined to make sure that he realises his full potential in the near future.
