Some Newcastle United fans on social media have been reacting after it was reported that they’re interested in both James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.
The fanbase weren’t too interested in the calibre of player that they would be signing if they landed Mee and Tarkowski, they were more keen to discuss the fact they could be signing players from their relegation rivals.
Newcastle signing the two Burnley centre-halves would undoubtedly leave the Lancashire outfit in a much weaker position and that would aid the Magpies’ own fight against relegation.
A potential strategy?
Fans seem to think that this is a part of the club’s strategy to weaken their rivals, and they love that idea as they try to scrap towards survival.
One fan even noted that this is a similar strategy to the one used by Celtic and Rangers in Scotland who often pinch players from other SPFL outfits in order to maintain their place as the dominant forces in Scotland.
This would be a very smart strategy. Albeit a very sneaky one, and while we’ve not seen this tactic employed in the Premier League before, we’ve never seen a team as rich as Newcastle in this type of relegation scrap.
Sometimes your best way to deal with competition is to simply buy them out, and perhaps that’s what the Magpies think they can do in order to get themselves out of trouble this season.
