Rangers manager Mark Warburton has claimed that he went into hiding following the Ibrox side’s embarrassing derby defeat against Celtic.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed that when his side were humbled 5-1 by rivals Celtic that he shut himself off from the world following the defeat, as reported by Daily Record.
It is never easy when you lose a derby game to your most bitter rivals. Most fans consider it the most important fixture of the year, if you come away with nothing it is always hard to take.
However, what is even more painful than that is being embarrassed by them and that is exactly what happened to Rangers and manager Warburton.
The 54-year-old is currently preparing his side for their Betfred Cup semi-final against their Old Firm dance partners, and the Englishman will be aiming to re-live the memories of their penalty shootout victory over the Bhoys as opposed to the pain of another loss.
“I didn’t go out. I live 100 yards from a Waitrose and didn’t go there. My son was up for the game and I didn’t go out the door. It was an early kick-off and I stayed in all night.” said Warburton to Daily Record.
“I didn’t go out the door because it wasn’t right. I just watched the game again and you have to learn. My son understood. He has been in football himself so he knows the score. I am sure he went out with his mates.
“The fact is that it wasn’t right. You have to understand the emotion of the city. I can’t talk about a different level of passion in Glasgow then not recognise or appreciate it.”
It is often suggested that the passion that is felt within this derby is unlike any other across the world, and now that Warburton has experienced that feeling he will aim to use it as fuel for the upcoming clash.
With Rangers also struggling to find their footing in the league, the cup tie at Hampden Park could prove to be a season defining game for the Ibrox men.
