Glasgow Rangers scout Vignal used to be a teammate of Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard while at Liverpool.
Glasgow Rangers scout Gregory Vignal has expressed his hopes of seeing Steven Gerrard lift silverware at Ibrox – noting how the investment at the club is really important, as well as being visible for all to see (Daily Record).
Vignal, who used to play for Rangers and came on board at Ibrox as an academy coach back in January 2018 (official website), will now be focusing his attentions to finding the stars of the future at G51.
The 37-year-old used to be on Liverpool’s books during Gerrard’s time as club captain and went on to have a loan at Rangers in the 2004-05 season, and speaking to the Daily Record, he hoped he could see his one-time fellow Red impress for the Blues.
In addition, Vignal – who was a guest of UEFA for the Champions League final and was just a few seats away from his Ibrox gaffer in the Wanda Metropolitano – listed several ways in which the club’s infrastructure has been improved.
“It would be a dream for Steven to win silverware as a manager and I really hope it happens because they deserve it and I’m honoured to be part of the club,” said Vignal.
“The club is going in the right direction and I’m so happy for them and especially the fans. You can see the investment in the club with the new pitches, first team canteen, facilities and new stand for the academy. These kind of things are really important and it’s great to see.”
Under Gerrard, Rangers had a bright season in the Scottish Premiership, finishing second in the table and recording two wins in the Old Firm derby, and there is widespread belief amongst the Bears faithful that the foundations to kick on in 2019-20 are very much in place.
