A huge Ibrox result for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers has sent shock-waves through the Dons support.

Rangers were on top form this weekend. They thrashed Aberdeen 5-0 at Ibrox to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to one point.

Now, some fans of the Pittodrie side are calling on manager Derek McInnes to be sacked.

An early exit to Hearts in the Scottish League Cup last week had already left a bitter taste, but a heavy defeat to their rivals in the top-flight is a step too far for a section of the Dons support.

A penalty double from James Tavernier helped push the Gers towards victory, with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe also on the scoresheet.

Perhaps most painfully though, Greg Stewart found the back of the net against his old side, despite not really impressing in the north east on loan last season.

There are now question marks surrounding McInnes’ future, with some believing they’ve simply stagnated over the last couple of years after excellent initial progression.

His stock was so high at Pittodrie at one point that Rangers themselves were linked with a move for him.

Now though, as Gerrard continues to show serious improvement from last season at Rangers, that’s a distant memory.
