Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has started twice under Giovanni van Bronckhorst – and has now been praised by the Dutchman.
Van Bronckhorst has managed two games as Rangers boss and has two wins.
After beating Sparta Prague 2-0, Rangers followed it up with a 3-1 away win at Livingston.
Van Bronckhorst is already putting his own stamp on this Rangers team, including Bassey playing at centre back.
Bassey, 21, was signed from Leicester City as a left back in 2020. The idea was for him to offer proper cover and competition for Borna Barisic.
That was Bassey’s prime position under Steven Gerrard, but he only started 10 league games under the now-Aston Villa boss.
Yet in Van Bronckhorst’s first two games, the Nigerian has partnered Connor Goldson at centre back.
A strong and physical player, Bassey offers key attributes whilst also being left-footed – perfect for balance when playing out from the back.

Bassey could shift there permanently under Van Bronckhorst, who has now hailed the Rangers defender.
Speaking to the press earlier today, Van Bronckhorst indicated that he has been ‘really impressed’ with Bassey.
Van Bronckhorst praised Bassey for being ‘full of energy’ and promised to help him ‘develop and grow’ at Ibrox.
