Rangers are hoping to put their shock Betfred Cup exit behind them

Rangers aim to put their Betfred Cup disappointment behind them when they return to league action this afternoon.
After 27 games unbeaten in all competitions this season, Steven Gerrard’s men suffered a shock 3-2 defeat against St Mirren in Wednesday’s quarter-final.
Motherwell will be aiming to prolong the league leaders’ misery and avoid a repeat of the previous meeting between the sides, which ended 5-1 to Rangers at Fir Park in September.

There were doubles for captain James Tavernier and Cedric Itten that day, as well as one from Jordan Jones. The consolation for Stephen Robinson’s men came courtesy of Jones’ fellow outcast George Edmundson.
Gerrard’s side have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premiership to 16 points, with Celtic on Scottish Cup duty this weekend. Motherwell, meanwhile, sit one point ahead of Dundee United in fifth.
FORM
Few could have foreseen Rangers shipping three goals and dropping out of the Betfred Cup on Wednesday. In 17 league games they’ve conceded just four goals, and no points have been dropped since September’s 2-2 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.
Like Rangers, Motherwell go into the game on the back of a defeat against St Mirren. Jim Goodwin’s men left Fir Park with a 1-0 victory last weekend.
Well’s previous fixture saw them beaten 3-0 at home by Hibs, and they’ve failed to claim a victory since their 2-0 victory against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena in October.

KICK-OFF
It’s a 3pm start at Ibrox on Saturday.
TV COVERAGE
The game will not be shown live on TV.
