Rangers transfers: Josip Vukovic comments on his future, confirms he’ll cost £3.4m

Rangers have been linked with bringing Josip Vukovic to Ibrox.

Maritimo midfielder Josip Vukovic has told Vitez that he has a £3.4million release clause in his contract amid links to Rangers.

Vukovic, 26, has endured a nomadic career to date, turning out for Dugopolje, Hajduk Split, Istra 1961, Split, Vitez and Olimpik Donetsk without much success.

He only joined Maritimo from Olimpik Donetsk over the summer, but he has impressed in Portuguese football so far, and speculation now surrounds his future.

The Croatian midfielder is now a target for Rangers according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, whilst talkSPORT claim Chelsea, Leicester City, Watford and Wolves are interested.

Vukovic has gone from a relative unknown to being linked with major clubs, which is quite the rise for a player who featured just eight times for Olimpik Donetsk in 2018.

Now, Vukovic has told Vitez that he has a €4million (£3.4million) release clause in his deal, meaning clubs know what they’ll have to pay to land him.

Vukovic added that he’s not used to being so in-demand in terms of interviews, adding that he wishes stories weren’t being written about him, but said ‘we’ll see’ when asked about a potential move.

Rangers have been prolific in the Croatian market by landing Borna Barisic and Albanian international Eros Grezda from Osijek as well as Nikola Katic from Slaven Belupo, so adding a third Croatian may not be out of the question.

Yet as a holding midfielder, Vukovic isn’t exactly what Rangers need right now, as Steven Gerrard already has the likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and Ross McCrorie who can play in that role.
