Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Ruben Micael to Ibrox in January.

Earlier this month, the Daily Record reported that Rangers are keen on a move to sign Portuguese midfielder Ruben Micael.

The Gers have won three league games in a row now, as they’ve beaten Aberdeen, Hearts and Hamilton Academical in their last three games as Mark Warburton’s side have begun to click.

However, Warburton will still want to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window, with midfield a particular area of concern for the Rangers boss.

Joey Barton’s contract was terminated after just eight games, Niko Kranjcar has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, whilst both Matt Crooks and Jordan Rossiter have suffered a host of knocks this term.

With that in mind, the Daily Record recently reported that Ruben Micael is a target for Warburton – and given that he may not be a household name for many Rangers fans, here are some facts about him to help Gers supporters get to know their latest transfer target.

1. Micael, 30, made his name with Uniao Madeira and Nacional before earning a big move to Porto in 2010, where he won two league titles and the Europa League.

2. His performances earned him a 2011 move to Atletico Madrid, but he never made a single appearance for the Spanish giants as he was first loaned out to Real Zaragoza, and then back to Portugal with Sporting Braga, where he moved permanently in 2013.

3. Micael has racked up 16 caps for the Portuguese national team over the course of his career, and also featured at Euro 2012 as Portugal reached the semi-finals of the competition.

4. Currently playing in China with Shijiazhuang Ever Bright FC, Micael made his move in 2015, but his side were relegated from the Chinese Super League having finished bottom of the table.

5. Micael has Champions League and Europa League experience to his name, but is believed to be available after Shijiazhuang’s relegation, despite having one year left on his contract.
