Rangers are keen on snapping up Norwich City defender Russell Martin, according to the Daily Record

The Gers are hoping to sign the centre-back on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Martin is a Scotland international, and has spoken highly in the past of potential rival Scott Brown.

Scott Brown of Celtic celebrates victroy after the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 23, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic and Rangers face off this weekend, and Brown is expected to play a prominent role.

Martin has played alongside Brown for Scotland and believes he is a player of ‘top quality’.

He told The Daily Record: “I always knew Scott was a good player, but I didn’t know how good.

“People may say he should always be doing it for Celtic but even in Champions League games he’s fantastic.

“Broonie was brilliant against Georgia. Absolutely superb and he would cruise it down in the English Premier League.”

Martin has no affinity either way although told The Telegraph in 2011 that his dad is a Celtic fan.

A move to Rangers could be just what Martin needs in his career, as he has made just four starts under Norwich boss Daniel Farke all season.

At 31, the defender could be just the answer to for Gers too, signing an experienced Scottish player, having seen several of their recent foreign imports fail to impress.
