Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker has now told the Championship club that he wants to secure a transfer to Rangers. The Premiership giants are also eager to take him to Ibrox.
That is according to the Daily Record, which reports Whittaker has now made his desire for a transfer to Rangers clear to Swansea. The Gers have turned the 22-year-old’s head after persistent efforts to secure his services. But the Jacks have been reluctant to let him leave.
Swansea continue to make active efforts to convince Whittaker to stay in south Wales with Russell Martin’s squad. He is yet to play for the club this term having spent the first half of the season on loan to Plymouth Argyle. Yet Rangers appreciate his displays in League One.
Whittaker scored nine and assisted seven goals during 25 appearances in the English third-tier this term. He started in 19 of those appearances alongside six cameos at Home Park in the Pilgrims’ table-topping run. Now, Martin hopes he will join Swansea’s promotion push.
But Rangers remain intent on securing his transfer and have now offered Swansea £2m for Whittaker. The Gers are still awaiting the Jacks’ response but the offer is likely to fall short. His Championship club wants more for the forward than the add-on laden bid on the table.

Rangers will continue to push for Whittaker’s transfer until Tuesday’s deadline as Swansea do not play this weekend. The winger playing for the Jacks would have ruled out a deal as he has already played for Plymouth this season. But Michael Beale is intent on his services.
The Gers started negotiations with the Jacks at just £900k despite the Welsh club wanting £2m, per The Scottish Sun. Beale would up Rangers’ bid for Whittaker’s transfer to £1.5m, including add-ons, per the Daily Record. Now, Swansea can get £2m but only with add-ons.
Whittaker now telling Swansea in no uncertain terms that he wants the transfer could help Rangers’ pursuit. But Martin will look to frustrate Beale’s desire for a player Plymouth boss Steven Schumacher had hoped would stay at Home Park for the rest of his year-long loan.
“He has been a real important player for us,” Schumacher noted at the start of January, via Plymouth Live. “He gets himself into great positions on the pitch [and] he shows his quality.
“Nearly every week he has opportunities to score and, at the moment, he’s taking them… I think everyone can see how good he is. He has been a brilliant player for us this season.
“He has contributed goals and assists and is one of the key reasons why we are sat at the top of the league. It’s no surprise what he’s doing week in, week out. We see him in training every day and he looks as though he’s really enjoying his football.”
