Mexico giants Tigres UNAL are reportedly interested in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos if they fail in the pursuit for Eintracht Frankfurt star Rafael Santos Borre.

According to the Daily Record, Tigres have made one final bid for the Bundesliga attacker in attempt to bring Borre to Mexico this January. Though as reported by AS, Frankfurt are yet to receive an offer that will match their £14m valuation for the Colombian.

A European champion with Frankfurt last season as the German side beat Rangers on penalties in the 2022 UEFA Europa League final, Borre is one of many players at the club who could leave this year with interest beginning to peak for the former River Plate superstar.

The 27-year-old was named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament for the Europa League, yet with Tigres struggling to sign Borre, Morelos is now being considered by the Mexican club, with the striker’s future at Rangers currently looking very uncertain.

Pundit Kris Boyd recently claimed that Morelos has come to the end of the line for Rangers after an incredible career with the Scottish giants, and if Tigres do indeed miss out on Borre, the Colombian international would be a strong alternative to the Frankfurt star.

Moreover, with Michael Beale looking to take Rangers in a new direction, offloading a player so synonymous with previous regimes could be a good way for the English coach to truly start the Glasgow club afresh, with Morelos leaving Ibrox something that would be truly incredible.

Tigres’ hunt for a new striker could soon take the Mexican club to Glasgow in the form of Morelos, and for all parties, the attacker heading to Monterrey could be for the best given the current climate surrounding Rangers and the view fans and pundits now have of the Colombian.

Indeed, with Mexico a country that has seen many European-based players thrive, Morelos could easily become a star in North America. And for Rangers, a good payday from Tigres wouldn’t go amiss in the January market, with the Bears keen to add to their squad this month.
