Rangers manager Michael Beale has hinted in Friday’s press conference that reports claiming Todd Cantwell could arrive at Ibrox this month are true – after the player was told he had no future at his current club down south.

Cantwell, 24, is out of contract this summer at Norwich City. Having starred in the Premier League for the Canaries but since relegation, his career has dwindled. This season, he has played 19 times – but has failed to score or assist.

Numerous reports have linked Cantwell to Rangers – and Beale has even commented on him, after beating Dundee United at Tannadice. Since, Vital Football report that Cantwell has even travelled north to Glasgow for a medical.

While those reports might be slightly pre-empting a move, Beale was asked about Cantwell in Friday’s presser – on Rangers TV. He stated, once again, that he rates Cantwell highly – and hinted that reports over Cantwell are true.

“He’s a player with a lot of ability, and there will be a lot of interest in him. He is a player that I like a lot. I said last week that I can’t really say much more than that, but you’re not far off the track for what you are all insinuating.”

Cantwell is a player with enormous quality. But it is about getting his attitude right, giving him the platform to perform in order to bring the best out of him. His new manager David Wagner says he has not future at Norwich.

It is unclear how much Cantwell will cost Rangers. A fee is likely, even though his contract is due to expire in the summer. But it makes sense that his price will have come down – after struggling since relegation from the top tier.
