Michael Beale has told Friday’s press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – that Rangers are interested in luring Nicolas Raskin to Ibrox this month, but is aware that the midfielder has numerous clubs eyeing a move this month.

Raskin, 21, has starred for Standard Liege over the last three seasons. But with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, Liege tried to tie him down. He refused, and has since been forced to train away from the first team.

Indeed, Raskin played in all of Liege’s first 17 League games this season. But the last four, he has not been included in the squad. Clearly, Liege want to offload the five-time Belgium U21 star, in order to bring in a fee for his services.

According to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Rangers are in advanced negotiations to sign Raskin. Beale was asked if the club are interested in signing Raskin. He said that Raskin is a player he admires, and that Rangers are interested.

“Another good player. A player I remember a lot from the time we played Standard Liege, he missed the first game against Rangers the night Kemar Roofe scored that amazing goal. But he played in the second leg,” Beale said.

“A very good player. I’m aware that his contract expires in the summer – he is attracting a lot of attention. There is an interest from us, but there is interest from a lot of others. I like to compliment good players. He certainly is one”.

Raskin would be a sensational signing. Not just because the Belgian is a top, top talent with huge potential. Even the chance to become a full Belgium international – and not just because Rangers could get Raskin for a bargain fee.

But because of the clubs also interested in the midfielder. Dutch outlet Voetbal Nieuws reported recently that the likes of Leeds, Barcelona, Fiorentina and Marseille are all keen. Ronny Deila once branded him “a monster”.
