Charlie McCann has left Rangers on a permanent basis this month and took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message to the Ibrox club – prompting reaction from fellow Rangers stars Alex Lowry and Leon King, following the news.

McCann, 20, joined Rangers from Manchester United in the summer of 2021. He has gone on to play eight times at senior level for Rangers. Four of which have come this season, one of which was under Michael Beale at Hampden.

But McCann has now left the club on a permanent basis. Rangers confirmed the news on Tuesday, saying McCann has left to join English side Forest Green Rovers – who are struggling in the third tier. He has signed a deal until June 2026.

The Northern Ireland U21 star has taken to Instagram following his exit from Rangers, after 18 months at Ibrox. He thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to play for the club, and the fans. He says he has made memories.

McCann now joins a side where is going to get plenty of first-team exposure. Having played eight times for the Gers over the last two seasons, he will now join a side that are fighting against the drop from England’s third tier this term.

Rovers sit bottom of League One. They have played two more games than the three clubs above them. Four teams go down from League One, to League Two. FGR are four points away from safety. With 17 games to play, plenty of time.

Plenty of his Rangers team mates responded on Instagram – mostly younger players with whom he has shared the pitch, in the Rangers B-team. Two of the most notable names to respond include playmaker Lowry, and defender King.
