Rangers have confirmed the signing of Todd Cantwell after weeks of speculation the playmaker would be arriving at Ibrox this month – prompting reaction from both Kenny McLean and Ibrox product Billy Gilmour on Instagram.
Cantwell, 24, was excellent for Norwich City with the Canaries in the Premier League after playing a crucial part in helping Rangers gaining promotion. But since relegation, Cantwell has failed to reproduce the form he is capable of.
Having been linked with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs such as Tottenham, he now starts a new journey – his first move away from Norwich. He joins Michael Beale’s side on a long-term basis. It is likely to be 2026 onwards.
Cantwell has posted on Instagram, saying he has got the “battle fever” on. It is believed, according to a number of reports, that Rangers have paid a small-ish fee to sign Cantwell of around £1.5million. A whole lot less than prior links.
Rangers confirm Cantwell: McLean and Gilmour react on Instagram
Cantwell has the ability to be a real bargain for Rangers. But, given his recent form, Cantwell could easily flop, too. He needs to hit the ground running and be given the game time at Ibrox by Michael Beale to shine. The freedom to do so.
Things, though look good. For two reasons. The first, Beale has given Ryan Kent the freedom to roam from the left and that has got the best out of the right-footed ace. His form has improved after struggling under Gio van Bronckhorst.
The second is that Beale has made it clear that he wants to look in a player’s eyes when signing them. So he knows they are ready to work hard, to make it work, to give their all. McLean and Gilmour have reacted to his move on Insta.
